Word Demonstration in Zugdidi

The initiative of Sitkvis Aktia (Action of Word), started on September 21, 2007 in Gurjaani (town in east Georgia), and was completed on September 27, 2007 in Zugdidi (town in west Georgia). In total there are two schools in Zugdidi that are under the guardianship of Abkhazian Ministry of Education and the majority of pupils that are attending these schools are IDPs from Abkhazia; the students wrote messages to the Abkhazians:

Hainip- “let us reconcile” in Abkhazian

I have been calling Abkhaz people for reconciliation since I was 15. I have been trying to persuade them that we, Georgians are not the ones they think, we can forgive. Let us live in friendship and understanding. We live in the same universe; there is no need of war. We want to return to our homeland with peace. We do not want to take away homeland form anyone; we simply want to return what belongs to us. We can live together in peace and understanding if you are not hostile to us. I truly believe that we can be friends.

Let us live peacefully and happily as normal people.

Ana Kvaratskhelia

I would like to send my greetings to Abkhaz people and tell them: “We love you”. We have made much pain for each other during the war, but the 15 years that we spent apart has changed our viewpoints. We are less angry and radical than we were before.
Let us reconciliate, let us forget the miseries that our parents had experience. “Sara shvara bzia shvizboit” - my hope is that our love will improve our relationships.

“Unihvazaait”
 Abkhazia Public School # 11

Hello Abkhazians, we had been friends for centuries, but then Russians came and made a terrible mess between us. Hatred replaced our friendship. I believe that the time will come and everything will return to its place and things will be as it was before the war. We shall live in friendship and prosperity in the Abkhazia and Georgia, and it will be with Abkhazians.  themselves.

Salome Akirtava

15 years have passed since we lost Abkhazia. I was only three months old then. Many innocent people died on both sides. Abkhazians and Georgians had always been living in peace until the third party interfered. I would like to tell Abkhazians, let’s be friends as we were before the war.

Khatia Kvaratskhelia

Georgian and Abkhazians had common enemies and they were fighting against the enemies together. They were praying in one church- Ilori Cathedral.

Today Abkhazia raises the feelings of fear and nostalgia. Nostalgia for the land that was once beautiful but now it is destroyed and lay in ashes. People escaped from once wonderful soil, some left for Russia, some to other countries and some became refugees in their own country with no home and no future. They cannot wait until the moment when they will return to Abkhazia. I dare say that this moment is not far from us. Abkhazia is a part of Georgia and when I set foot on Abkhazian soil, I will shout:

H e l l o A b k h a z  i a

Tamuna Kantaria

I would like to tell Abkhaz people that we are all equally responsible for the things that happened during the war in Abkhazia. We, brothers were shooting guns at each other. Let us forgive each other and build our Abkhazia together.

Paata Gvadzabia

We must not repeat the mistakes of our parents; we must be friendly with Abkhaz people and say to each other “Hainishvap” I think there is always a way out. Our duty is to find the way out of his situation in order to live in peace in the united Georgia.

Sopo Tulaia

We must put an end to hatred and anger that now exists between two nations. We must forget the miseries of war and fight for peace and unity.

Anzhela Gurtkaia

Unfortunately, the past 15 years were full of tears. If not the war, we could have lived happily together. I cannot believe that you, Abkhazians are content living in constant fear and subject to violence out of control. We must be together. We belong together. We had been supporting each other in happiness and despair for centuries and this 15-year gap cannot separate us.

I want to say to those who tried to separate us- you have failed.

Natia Jakhaia

The teacher asked us to write messages to Abkhaz people. After the 15 years of separation I want to tell them “Hainishvap”, (in Abkhazian let us reconciliate).Animosity has not brought us any good. Let us leave all bad memories in the past. It does not worth to recollect the quarrel between our parents. I hope that young Georgians and Abkhazians will not be stressed by the cruelties of war and that we will have common sense to resolve the conflict.

It is inadmissible to lose contact with each other. We must not be afraid of each other; we must be friends.

Let us forget the 15 years of destruction. We forgive you and please forgive us. I know it is difficult but we must try our best. My dear Abkhazian sisters, brothers and friends “sara shvara bzia shvizboit”

Eka Tsatsua

My dream is to return to Abkhazia and if it fulfils I will be on the seventh sky…. I have never seen Abkhazia, but I am sure that we will be happy there.

Data Papaskiri

I know it is difficult and for some people and almost impossible to forget the war of 1993 in Abkhazia, but at least we must try. We ca not live with the horrible memories of war and mistakes that adult’s made. A war is not a solution. You must believe that Georgians love you.
